Short BIO

Junior scientist with overall experience in marine biology. The main focus of my research is metagenomics and species distribution modelling. Results from my master thesis identified the prokaryotic community associated with the gorgonian Eunicella labiata and further indicated that relatively simple modifications to standard cultivation protocols allow the cultivation of prevalent bacterial associates of temperate gorgonians.

Since April 2020 I work at the ETH Zurich in Switzerland and receive advanced training in species distribution modelling. I aim for an academic career combining species distribution modelling and metagenomics to investigate the biogeography of marine planktonic species, from prokaryotes to eukaryotes.

Role in AtlantECO

Determining the present global distribution of marine planktonic diazotrophs, based on in situ observations and statistical species distribution modelling.

Working on the links between diazotroph diversity/biomass and nitrogen fixation, in the context of Biodiversity-Ecosystem Function (B-EF) relationships.
